The Webster Groves Herb Society was organized in 1971 to promote growing and using herbs.
Our motto is Each One Teach One.
We maintain the herb garden at the Historic Hawken House in Webster Groves, Missouri. In addition, our Society supports herb gardens at other area historic homes: Mudd’s Grove in Kirkwood and Faust Park Historic herb garden in West St. Louis County.
Our two major community events are our Annual Herb Sale in April and our Autumn Herb Gathering in October.
Our one day herb sale features over 10,000 herbs, a one-stop-shopping convenience offering the widest selection of herb varieties in the Greater St. Louis area. Our knowledgeable members can answer your herb-growing, herb-using, and herb-selecting questions. Demonstrations, food samples, and gardening and herbal books add to the herbalicious atmosphere of the day!
WGHS provides student scholarships in herb-related studies, makes donations to community projects, donates plants and member hands-on help in maintaining the herb gardens at Hawken House in Webster Groves, Mudd’s Grove in Kirkwood, and the History Village Herb Garden at Faust Park in Chesterfield. These gardens are open to the public and show the herbs that grow so well in this region.
The Autumn Herb Gathering explores the uses of all the wonderful herbs we have grown during the summer. Guest speakers share their experiences growing, harvesting, and using herbs. WGHS members show what can be crafted from herbs. These hand-crafted herbal items are for sale, along with herbal and gardening books.
