Common Yarrow, Achillea millefolium, is the 2024 herb of the year as designated by the International Herb Association. This herbaceous perennial is found in zones 3-9 with a height of 2-3 feet and a spread of 2-3 feet. The bloom time is June through September and full sun is the best growing environment. This fragrant flower is loved by butterflies and is described as having a strong somewhat spicy aroma. Considered a powerful healing herb it can be used when cooking, landscaping as well as medicinal purposes.
The genus name Achillea refers to Achilles, hero of the Trojan Wars in Greek mythology, who used the plant medicinally to stop bleeding and to heal the wounds of his soldiers.
