Water: Medium to wet Culinary Uses: Grated root in soups, stir fry, and numerous other meat, poultry and seafood dishes. Crystallized root in Asian confection. The young sprouts are also edible. Dried and ground in baking, candies and puddings.
Garden Uses: Container, shade garden, Florida room.
Growing: Requires heat and humidity, grow in container in a partially shady spot during summer months and bring in before temps drop below 50F.. Provided adequate space, ginger can reach a height of 4′ with a 2- to 3-foot spread. Harvesting: Allow several months before harvesting to allow rhizomes to reach adequate size. With care, new sections may be harvested while allowing the remainder to continue growing.
